Nicky May - Painter & Potter
I
have loved painting all my life,
turned to painting seriously in
1994,
and had work shown in galleries
in Oxford and London.
Falling in love with ceramics in
1999 I studied at
Sunningwell School of Art and
the Royal Forest of Dean
College.
I am a member of Bude Art
Society, the East Cornwall
Society of Artists,
the Cornwall Ceramics and Glass
Group, and Westcountry Potters
Association.
My work can be seen in galleries
throughout the South West.

Serene ceramic sculptures for house and
garden, inspired by life drawing and
informed by a feeling for curves. Each
piece is built by hand, and takes many
hours to complete. First the form is
built up using coils and slabs of clay;
then it is patiently refined until the
“right” curve is found. I rarely use
glazes, working instead with just the
clay itself, mixing it with oxides to
produce muted, earthy colours. Finally,
the work is fired to 1,240 degrees, and
is frost-resistant. |
