Calor Village of the Year - 2009
You may have
already heard the good news that Week St Mary
has won Calor Cornwall Village of the Year 2009.
On August 28th Linda and I, the competition
co-ordinators, attended the awards ceremony at
Cornwall Rural Community Council offices in
Truro. With stiff competition from 5 other
villages: Carharrack, Gorran Haven,
Kingsand/Cawsand, St Agnes, Sticker/Hewaswater
After a short introduction, and film about
Calor, the sponsors of the competition outlined
their particular involvement. A rep from each
village had to give a short talk about their own
approach to their entry before the winners were
announced in reverse order. We were on
tenterhooks as gradually all the other villages
had their mention. It was only when Sticker were
announced in 2nd place that we realised Week St
Mary had won but had to repress a shout of
'proper job' until it was actually announced! By
then we were both speechless (unusual!).
A presentation of a
plaque, certificate and a cheque for £250 were
received on the village's behalf. After light
refreshments we made our way home grinning like
Cheshire cats. The grins soon wore off when we
realised we had to do it all over again for the
next phase of the competition!
The next round is
for the winner of the Western region and the
judges visit Week St. Mary on Tuesday 6th
October. You are all welcome to join us in the
Methodist School Room for the arrival and
presentation between 10am and 12 noon.
Please come and give your support to this
presentation - after all, it's YOUR
village!
