Rogation Sunday - Sunday 9th May 2010

On Sunday 9th May 2010 we will revive this ancient tradition for all of those reasons of friendship, neighbourliness and thanksgiving, as we perambulate around our village. Meeting at Week St Mary’s Lower Green at 10:00 am we will walk gently together around our community, stopping at the places which reflect our rural life, swopping yarns about them, hearing something about their history, say an appropriate prayer and asking God’s blessing upon them. Finally, at around 11:00 am, we will end up at St Mary’s Church for a song, a prayer, a blessing and some really nice refreshments. This is a traditional family community event so please come, bring your children, bring your friends and revive an historic country-church tradition. Everyone will be made most welcome. Revd Rob

Although a cold wind the weather was dry and bright which helped encourage about 30 parishioners to assemble at the Lower Green by 10am. After the 'press photo' Rev Rob outlined the format of the informal walk around the lower part of the village.

At each location prayers were said and a notice was displayed in a prominent position.

11. On Entering St. Mary's Church:

Great excitement was generated by Brenda when she produced her new four-legged companion, 'Alfie' - a young puppy not yet able to plod the roads around Week St Mary but will, no doubt, be another fine companion for her.

Upon conclusion of the Service light refreshments were enjoyed in a nice warm church - it was nice to get out of the bitter wind!
