Week St. Mary Ladies
On Sunday 19th July Week St. Mary Ladies football team played in a 7-a-side Ladies Tournament at St. Agnes, with proceeds raised being divided between Cancer Research UK and St. Agnes AFC.
16 teams took part who, apart from Week St. Mary, all play League football. The teams were split randomly into 2 groups.

Round 1. Round-Robin - Each team played 4 fixtures of 8 minutes one way.
1. Week St. Mary 1 – 0 Hayle 2 J en Parkin scored for Week
2. Week St. Mary 1 – 0 Mevagissy Bryonie Lapham scored for Week
3. Week St. Mary 0 – 2 Falmouth
4. Week St. Mary 1 – 1 Hayle 1 Bryonie Lapham scored for Week

Round 2. Selection Round - 1 fixture of 5 minutes each way.
Week St. Mary 0 – 1 Charlestown
Charlene May ('keeper) saved a penalty but Charlestown scored 2 mins later.

All points gained from the 5 matches were added up: the top 8 teams went into the Tournament Cup with the 8 lower teams in the Supplementary Cup. With 2 wins and 1 draw Week found themselves in the Tournament Cup which was a really good result for our ladies who have not played a competitive game since October 2008.

Round 3. Knock Out (Tournament Cup) – each fixture of 5 minutes each way.
Week St. Mary 0 – 1 Roche

A very good performance by the team against much more experienced opposition. Thank you to Alf, Adam (& Saffron), Sarah and Jackie who, with myself, supported the ladies on the day.    Chris Warneford

Kilkhampton Ladies 9 - 3 Week St. Mary Ladies
In this return friendly fixture both teams were well matched in the first half. Kilkhampton took the lead after eighteen minutes when a short goal kick was pounced on by Carly Olde but Week equalised immediately through Bryonie Lapham. The visitors came close with the home ‘keeper denying Steph Haydon and Siobhan Jeffreys. But Week kept up the pressure and went ahead when Bryonie Lapham’s shot was pushed away by the ‘keeper into the path of Siobhan Jeffreys who slotted it home, but just before half-time Sammy Butler got the equaliser for Kilkhampton to make it 2-2.
The second half was all change (quite literally!) as Kilkhampton made full use of their 6-8 substitutes to keep fresh legs on the pitch! With Week only having 1 sub all the players had to work hard but slowly ran out of steam and were never going to be able to compete against so many fresh players. A goal rout ensued with the home side scoring seven, and Week replying with a brilliantly taken penalty by Byonie Lapham to give the final score.
A creditable performance by Week who were well on terms at the end of the first half and who should not be disheartened by the final score.

Week St. Mary Ladies 3  -  1 Kilkhampton Ladies
Kilkhampton started brightly and had the best of the first ten minutes but Week began to get organised and started moving the ball well. Play was end to end with ‘keeper Charlene May, on her debut in goal, making some important saves for Week, and just before half-time they went ahead through new player Bryonie Lapham.
Early in the second half the home side doubled their score when Bryonie Lapham got her second but Yvette Parfett pulled one back for the visitors soon after. With the light fading fast late in the second half Bryher Smeeth’s driving shot into the top corner sealed Week’s first victory. A good team performance by Week in their first 11-a-side match since April.

Sunday 2nd March 2008
Penzance Reserves 4 - 0 Week St. Mary Ladies
Week St. Mary Ladies football team travelled to Penzance to play the Penzance Ladies Reserve team who had just won Division 3 of the Jaipur Cornwall League. This was their first friendly fixture since August 2007 and the first time they had played 45 minutes each way! The weather was mild and dry and the ladies had a good contingent of supporters to cheer them on.
With usual goal-keeper Sharon Barriball out due to injury the home side allowed their ‘keeper Grace Rudlin to play for Week with Launceston/Cornwall player Tyler Matthews also guesting for them.
The visitors started well and despite their lack of match experience their regular weekly training sessions paid off. The home side didn’t break the deadlock until half way through the first half, getting their second just before half-time. The midfield and defence were kept busy but made some good clearances. Week worked hard right until the end, despite being very tired, but they were unable to really test the oppositions ‘keeper. Penzance scored twice more in the second half to wrap up the victory.
A creditable performance by Week against an experienced side, giving them valuable match practice and the impetus to want to play more fixtures.
