On a very windy afternoon it was Week that took the lead after five minutes when Rob Hambly crossed the ball to the by-line and Adam Colwill found the narrow angle to slot it past the ‘keeper. The visitors got their second twenty minutes later when a great volley by Matt Proudfoot rifled through the defence. St. Merryn fought back and capitalised when a defensive mix up allowed Patrick Sheerin to slot it into the corner. Just before half-time Matt Proudfoot could have had his second but his screaming shot struck the post. The visitors went further ahead two minutes into the second half when Wayne Hannaford slotted the ball through to Adam Colwill who struck it past the ‘keeper. The home side had a couple of chances but Week’s pressure paid off when Matt Proudfoot ran through the defence only for the clearance to fall to Adam Hodgson who drove it past the ‘keeper.  Report by Chris Warneford

Mark Hodgson (1) Ben Smeeth (1) Vince Brown (1)  Matt Proudfoot (1)

On a warm sunny afternoon Week bounced back from last week’s defeat to earn a convincing win against visitors Gorran. The home side dominated the first half, starting strongly when Mark Hodgson’s dipping shot in the first minute almost beat the ‘keeper who just tipped it over the bar. Adam Colwill scored his first after fifteen minutes, shortly followed by his second with a great turn and volley. Rob Hambly put Week three up after thirty minutes with the visitors having a couple of half-chances.
Despite Gorran’s perseverance Week continued their goal feast early in the second half when Mark Hodgson drove his shot low into the corner for his debut goal. The home side had plenty more chances with Adam Colwill getting his hat trick after 35 minutes, quickly followed by a strike from Ben Smeeth. Vince Brown made it seven when he pounced on a dropped save by the ‘keeper with Matt Proudfoot completing the scoring from a penalty. Report by Chris Warneford  (Match Sponsor: David Coles)

Adam Colwill (1) Tom Hannford (1) Rob Hambly (2)
Vince Brown (1) Neville Turner (1) Adam Hodgson (1)

A good performance by Week St. Mary to earn them another convincing win against Lifton. Despite a couple of early chances from the visitors, it was Week who dominated the first half and opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Ben Smeeth’s through ball found Adam Colwill who chipped it over the advancing ‘keeper. Ten minutes later Tom Hannaford headed in from a corner and a great strike by Rob Hambly made it 3-0 at half time.
Week kept up the pressure in the second half and twenty minutes in Neville Turner was on the goal line to chest in Adam Colwill’s cross. Rob Hambly got his second with a right foot strike and Vince Brown made it 6-0. Ian Woodridge got one back for Lifton who also had a shot cleared off the line, but it was Adam Hodgson who rounded the ‘keeper to complete the scoring for Week.  Report by Chris Warneford  (Match Sponsor: Ivor Barriball)

Week started strongly and attacked from the off but were lucky not to be punished when a break by Nanpean, early in the first half, ended with a shot just over the bar. The visitors eventually went ahead after 27 minutes when a cross into the box was finally put in by Sean Johns on the goal line. Week continued to maintain possession and attack but it was Nanpean who equalised just before half-time, when a quick break by Shaun German ended with a chip over the ‘keeper.
Week’s continued pressure in the second half paid off, when after a succession of corners the clearance fell to Wayne Hannaford who struck his shot through the defence. Rob Hambly’s low drive into the left-hand corner squeezed past the ‘keeper after 35 minutes to give the visitors a two goal advantage. Nanpean were unlucky not to score in the final ten minutes when they missed an open goal and then had a shot cleared off the line after hitting the crossbar.

Week St. Mary

3 1

Lostwithiel

Rob Hambly (1)  Mark Hodgson (2)

A great team performance by Week St. Mary to give them a well earned win over Lostwithiel, who are unbeaten in Duchy competitions this season. In a very competitive first half play was end to end with the visitors forcing ‘keeper Matt Oke to make some very important saves. Both sides had chances but despite Lostwithiel having the edge there was no score at half time.
Week took the lead 5 minutes into the second half when a 25 yard free kick by Rob Hambly took a rebound off the wall allowing Rob a second chance to fire it through the defence. Lostwithiel equalised 10 minutes later when Nick Harvey rose above the defence to head in from a corner. A determined Week fought back with some great passing play allowing substitute Mark Hodgson to put Week ahead soon after. The home side continued to pressurise with Mark Hodgson getting his second to give them a two-goal lead that Week was not going to relinquish. Report by Chris Warneford  (Match Sponsor: Paul Cartwright)

Week had majority possession in the first half and kept the visitors in their own half for much of it They had numerous chances with Mark Hodgson denied by the ‘keeper on several occasions. Despite all the pressure by Week they didn’t convert their efforts and it remained 0-0 at half time.
The second half started well for Week with Sean Johns heading just wide in the first minute. The Saints came back into the game and took control for the next 15 minutes but were unable to capitalise. The home side were not to be contained for long, and with a change in formation took the lead after 20 minutes when Mark Hodgson drove it home. Week were now in control and moving the ball around well; with good build-up play they got their second when a great ball by Wayne Hannaford split the defence and allowed Rob Hambly to fire it into the net. Another good performance by Week with solid defending once again by Adam Hodgson and Ben Smeeth. Report by Chris Warneford  (Match Sponsor: WIN Business Services)

In their first game of the New Year Week got off to a flying start with two goals in the first few minutes. A Darren Johns’ header hit the post in the first minute with Sean Johns volleying in the rebound, shortly after the advancing ‘keeper slipped on the edge of the area where Adam Colwill pounced on the loose ball to make it 2-0 to the visitors. Week kept up the pressure and with the wind in their favour scored again when Rob Hambly’s curling corner was put in by Vince Brown on the goal line. Sean Johns got his second from a cross by Adam Hodgson to put Week four ahead at half time with the home side having a couple of half-chances in the last ten minutes.
Despite playing against the wind, it was the visitors who scored again ten minutes into the second half when Adam Hodgson struck home after some good midfield play by Week. After pressure in the box a clearance finally fell to Darren Johns who drove it back through the defence to complete the scoring.  Report by Chris Warneford

Week St. Mary

Antony Sachs (1)

Week had the majority of possession in the first half with plenty of good build up play but were unable to get off the mark. They came very close on several occasions with Ashley Wooley hitting the upright and Nigel Barriball’s outstretched leg just missing the ball as it skidded across the goalmouth. The home side only had one real chance, from a break early in the first half, with a cross into the box chipped just over the bar.
The second half saw total domination by the visitors with Pensilva continually pinned in their own half. But with chance after chance gong begging, and the home side defending in numbers, it looked like a goalless draw was on the cards much to Week’s frustration. However, the visitors determination and continued pressure paid off when another goalmouth scramble, two minutes from time, saw the ball finally fall to substitute Antony Sachs (back from injury after a long lay off) who drove it home.
A hard fought victory by Week who thoroughly deserved the three points.  Report by Chris Warneford

Lanreath

Ashley Wooley (1)  Adam Hodgson (2)  Rob Hambley (1)

Despite Week starting well Lanreath could have taken the lead in the first ten minutes but were denied by two good saves from ‘keeper Matt Oke. But it was the home side that found the back of the net after 15 minutes, when from the byline Rob Hambly made an excellent chip over the defender to Ashley Wooley who from a very narrow angle drove his shot past the ‘keeper low into the far corner. Lanreath equalised when a cross into the box was cleanly struck by Geoff Massey. Week came close again when Adam Colwill’s shot was just wide and at the other end a clearance off the goal line by Week’s Adam Hodgson kept the scores level at half-time.
Three minutes into the second half Adam Hodgson pounced on a defensive mistake to put the home side ahead. Soon after a penalty driven wide by Lanreath denied them an equaliser. Week began to dominate the game with some good football and went further ahead from a driving shot by Rob Hambly. Adam Colwill came close on several occasions and was also denied when his shot into the far top corner was turned away by the ‘keeper. But he provided a great cross into the box where a diving header from Adam Hodgson sealed a well-earned victory for Week and inflicted promotion rivals Lanreath with their first defeat.

Week St. Mary

Adam Colwill (1)  Vince Brown (1)  Antony Sachs (1)  Sean Johns (1)

On a very heavy pitch Week got off to a winning start after taking the lead from their side’s first attack. Rob Hambly slotted it through to Adam Colwill on the edge of the box who beat two defenders and struck it sweetly into the bottom far corner past the diving ‘keeper. Newmoor hit back three minutes later when Alex Hawke beat the defender and with a well judged shot put it over the ‘keeper to level the score. The rest of the first half was fairly even with Week coming close on several occasions.
The visitors came out strongly in the second half moving the ball well and putting the home side under constant pressure. A disallowed goal after 25 minutes spurred the visitors on and soon after a well worked move allowed Vince Brown to put them ahead. Two minutes later sustained attacking by Week made it 3-1 from a strike by Antony Sachs. Sean Johns completed the scoring, turning in Adam Colwill’s pass across the face of the goal from close range.  Report by Chris Warneford

Bere Alston Reserves

Adam Colwill (1)  Rob Hambly (2)

In this keenly contested high scoring match, against fellow promotion rivals Bere Alston, it was the visitors that had the better start when early in the first half Tom Hatwell out ran the defender and drove the ball low into the far corner. They continued to pressurise Week giving them little time on the ball and playing the offside trap when Week pushed forward. The visitors increased their lead when a curling shot hit the crossbar and fell into the path of Tom Hatwell to give him his second. The home side worked hard with visiting ‘keeper Tony Rawlings denying them several times. Week got back in the game two minutes from half time with a great strike by Rob Hambly but Bere Alston struck back immediately when a lapse in defence allowed Tom Hatwell his hat-trick to give them a 3-1 lead at the break.
The home side came out determinedly in the second half and had the best of it. They closed the gap when Rob Hambly’s shot was parried out by the ‘keeper with Rob following up and heading it in. With tensions running high Week continued to pressurise and 30 minutes in were rewarded with an equaliser from Adam Colwill. They nearly snatched the win when Rob Hambly’s cross into the box was headed on by Sean Johns only for the ‘keeper to make an excellent save and push it past the post; they came close again when Adam Hodgson’s shot in front of goal went over the bar.
An excellent comeback by Week, who in the end deserved the points, but had to settle for the draw.   Report by Chris Warneford

St. Merryn Reserves

Vince Brown (2)  Sean Johns (1) Adam Hodgson (2)
Nigel Barriball (1)  Ben Smeeth (1)

With a team of only nine players St. Merryn were always going to have an uphill struggle and Week capitalised on this in the first half. They scored after five minutes when Rob Hambly’s cross into the box from the left wing was well struck by Vince Brown. Sean Johns slotted in the second and soon after Adam Hodgson ran onto Rob Hambly’s cross and drove it through the defence. Vince Brown got his second, as did Adam Hodgson, to put Week 5 – 0 up after thirty minutes.
Undeterred the visitors battled hard in the second half and despite running out of steam persevered to the end. Week missed chance after chance and was also denied by some great saves from ‘keeper Adrian Steele. Five minutes from time Nigel Barriball scored from close range with Ben Smeeth completing the scoring in the last minute. A game played in good spirit with sportsmanship from both teams. Week won the points, but all credit to St. Merryn for their grit and determination with only nine men.

Pensilva

Adam Colwill (2)  Rob Hambly (1)

On an extremely windy and bitterly cold Sunday afternoon Pensilva took the lead early in the first half from a well taken volley by Michael Rendle. Both teams had to work hard against the strong wind and a determined Week pressurised the visitors but despite chances the score remained unchanged in the first half.
The home side came out strongly after the break and equalised early on when a well worked move by Adam Hodgson found Adam Colwill in the centre of the box who slotted it low into the corner. A hard working Week had the better of the second half and their perseverance paid off when they finally took the lead with five minutes to go from Rob Hambly’s driving 25-yard strike. Adam Colwill sealed victory with a long shot that went through the ‘keepers legs and slowly dribbled over the line in the dying minutes. A well deserved win for Week earning them a place in the semi-final.

In a fast moving end to end game Week took the lead when a great cross by Rob Hambly was put in from close range by Adam Colwill after fifteen minutes. The home side had the better of the first half but just before half time a quick break by Biscovey allowed them to snatch an equaliser.
The second half was very even for the first twenty minutes with chances for both sides but then it was the visitors who took the lead. Week were denied an equaliser when a well-struck shot by Sean Johns was blocked by the ‘keeper. Biscovey began to take control scoring again to put them further ahead. Keeper Darren Johns made two good saves for Week but they couldn’t convert their chances at the other end. Two minutes from time Antony Sachs made it 2-3 but it was too late for Week. A good performance by a below strength Week against their higher ranked opponents.

Week got off to a flying start against promotion rivals Padstow United with two goals in ten minutes. Adam Colwill chipped it over the defence into the box for Sean Johns to calmly place it past the ‘keeper and Adam Hodgson’s run down the right finished with a great driving shot. Padstow got one back through Mark Billing but when Sean Johns was brought down in the box, Tom Hannaford’s penalty made it 3-1 to the visitors after fifteen minutes. Jake Charles closed the gap again for the home side but Week replied with Adam Hodgson getting his second to put the visitors back in control.
Padstow started well in the second half but it was Week who went further ahead after ten minutes when Adam Colwill made a determined run down the centre and finished it with a well struck shot past the ‘keeper. The visitors kept up the pressure dominating play and increased their lead when a pass into the box was headed on by Ben Smeeth for Adam Hodgson to volley it home for his hat-trick. Ben Smeeth completed the scoring to give Week a valuable away victory and keep them in contention for promotion.

A resounding mid-week victory for Week who outclassed their opponents with some very good football.
Ashley Coles scored his debut goal for the first team four minutes into the game when he turned the defender in the box and slotted it home. Vince Brown was brought down in the area and Nigel Barriball made it 2-0 with a well struck penalty. Week moved the ball well and a great strike from Rob Hambly put them further ahead. Boscastle persevered but were unable to create any real chances. Just before half time a well worked move down the line came to Adam Colwill in the box who coolly put it past the ‘keeper.
Week continued their domination in the second half with Adam Hodgson’s driving shot through the defence putting them five up. Vince Brown squeezed his volley between the post and the ‘keeper with Adam Hodgson getting his second and a Boscastle own goal completing the scoring.

Boscastle

Adam Colwill (1)

This semi-final was a fairly even affair between two sides that were both slightly understrength due to injuries and other sporting commitments, but two late goals saw Boscastle through to the final.  Boscastle opened the game stronger and scored after fifteen minutes when a free kick from the left wing was floated into the far corner by Mark Gusterson. Week then matched their much higher ranked opponents and equalised when Lee Hannaford threaded a ball through the Boscastle defence and Adam Colwill muscled his way past a Boscastle defender before scoring with a low shot. This signalled a change in fortunes with Week beginning to play the more attacking football and dominating the game on a hard dusty pitch.
Week came out for the second half fired up and continued to take the game to Boscastle but failed to make an impact in front of goal rarely troubling ‘keeper Dave Bosley. Boscastle were awarded a penalty for a push on Gusterson and Simon Biddick stepped up to despatch the spot kick with only ten minutes remaining. Week pressed forward in search of a deserved equaliser but this created gaps in the defence and Boscastle notched the killer goal when a left wing cross was side-footed into the net by Jeff Uglow.

A penalty by Nigel Barriball gave them the lead after thirty minutes with Wayne Hannaford slotting in their second five minutes later. Week came close again when a driving shot by Rob Hambly was headed over the bar.
Early in the first half the home side increased their lead when Rob Hambly floated a corner into the box and Ben Smeeth rose above the defence to head it home. Pensilva persevered; they had a couple of shots on target and almost scored but were denied when Ben Smeeth cleared off the line. Rob Hambly’s pass across the face of the goal was turned in by Vince Brown to make it 4-0 and a superb 40 yard volley from Rob Hambly left the ’keeper stranded completing the scoring for Week just before the final whistle.

Week had most of the chances in the first half scoring three but it could have been more but for some good saves by visiting ‘keeper Dave Pendleton. Wayne Hannaford’s 25 yard shot over the ‘keeper gave Week the lead after fifteen minutes with a good strike from Newmoor punched away by ‘keeper Matt Oke denying them an equaliser five minutes later. Week responded immediately when Adam Colwill slotted in from a narrow angle. Just before half time Rob Hambly got Week’s third with a well-struck shot past the ‘keeper.
Newmoor’s Paul Rowe scored early in the second half but it was Week that continued to make all the chances. Ashley Coles was deemed offside when he chipped the ‘keeper with Week denied again when Nigel Barriball’s penalty was pushed past the post. With the game losing momentum in the last twenty minutes Week took the points to keep them in promotion contention.

In the last game of the season Week dominated the first half with Gorran only having one real chance that was cleared off the line by Lee Hannaford. The visitors had plenty of attacks but didn’t get off the mark until the 35th minute when Steven Short’s cross was struck goal ward by Antony Sachs and flicked on by Vince Brown. Week’s second came five minutes from the break when Sean Johns’ shot rebound and Adam Colwill tapped in from close range.
Gorran pressurised Week early in the second half but couldn’t break down the defence. 20 minutes in Sean Johns took the ball into the box, went past the defender and slotted it into the far corner. Gorran got one back through Alan Forsyth’s penalty but Week replied with a well struck shot from Sean Johns. The visitors completed the scoring when Sean Johns muscled his way past the defender and calmly slotted it past the ‘keeper for his hat-trick.
A good finish to the season by Week who haven’t lost a League game since December and should have done enough to earn themselves promotion once again. Many thanks to their team sponsor Treetops Inn, the home match sponsors and all their supporters.
