Camelford

Rob Hambly (2) Wayne Hannaford (P), Sean Johns (1), Vince  Brown (1)
Adam Colwill (1), Jason MOuntain, OG

Following their convincing 7–2 defeat of St. Anns Chapel in their opening game in Division 2, Week continued their good form with another solid performance against local rivals Camelford.
On a hot and sunny afternoon (yes it really was!) it was the visitors who took the lead after four minutes through Billy Daynes, but a well-struck penalty by Wayne Hannaford levelled the score soon after. With end to end play it was Week that finally went ahead with two goals in three minutes from Sean Johns and Rob Hambly. The home side continued to attack and moved the ball well with Rob Hambly getting his second and just before half-time Jake Dickinson scoring for Camelford to make it 4-2.
A few minutes into the second half an own goal increased Week’s lead and they continued to dominate play despite the efforts of a level headed and professional M. Hilson at the back for Camelford. A good cross by Rob Pearce across the face of the goal was headed in at the far post by Jason Mountain with Adam Colwill and Vince Brown completing the scoring for Week.  Match Sponsor: Neil Fishleigh    Match report: Chris Warneford

Probus

Rob Hambly (1), Rob Pearce (1)

After the washout of the previous weekend it was a hot and sunny afternoon and with plenty of local support Week St. Mary put on a good team performance to take all three points against visiting Probus. With end to end play in the first half the visitors had the best chances but were denied by some excellent saves by ‘keeper Darren Johns. After thirty minutes it was Week that broke the deadlock when Jason Mountain’s pass from midfield found Wayne Hannaford near the by-line who struck it across the face of the goal for Rob Hambly to turn in.
Probus made a good start in the second half with an early shot tipped over the bar and another chance cleared off the line by Steven Short. But Week kept working hard and dominated the rest of the second half with some excellent play. In the final minutes Week got their second when Rob Hambly put through Rob Pearce who found himself with just the ‘keeper to beat and coolly found the back of the net. Probus got a consolation goal in the final minute of extra time from a penalty by Mike Holden.  Match Sponsor: Mike Tremlett    Match report: Chris Warneford

Week St. Mary (Extra Time)

Rob Hambly (1), Adam Colwill (1)

In wet and windy conditions play was end to end in the first half with Grampound having the better of the chances and who should have been ahead but neither side could find the back of the net.
The home side came out strongly again in the second half and finally took the lead seventeen minutes in with a far post header by Dai Moseley. A determined Week fought back and equalised when Rob Hambly ran onto a long goal-kick down the middle by ‘keeper Darren Johns. Shane Weeks put the home side back in front ten minutes from time but Week fought back once more drawing level from a drive by Adam Colwill in the final minutes to force extra-time.
The visitors dominated the first 15 minutes with James Rugg’s cross from the by-line skimming along the top of the crossbar and a shot from Rob Hambly blocked by the ‘keeper. But it was substitute Andy James, who had just come on, that snatched the winner for Grampound four minutes from the final whistle. Despite the score line defenders Nick Lapham and Nigel Barriball put in solid performances for Week.  Match report: Chris Warneford

Calstock

Sean Johns (2), Rob Hambly (1)

Calstock got off to a flying start and went ahead after five minutes; they took the game to Week and doubled their lead in the 26th minute. But Week got back into the game a few minutes later through a great free kick by Sean Johns and continued to pressurise, finally drawing level just before halftime with another well struck free kick, this time by Rob Hambly.
The second half was fairly even for the first 20 minutes but a quick break by Calstock put the home side under pressure and despite getting a foot to the shot the defender could only turn it into his own net. The visitors struck again two minutes later to make it 2-4 but Week replied when Sean Johns got his second from close range. With plenty of encouragement from the home supporters Week continued to push forward. A well-struck free kick by Sean Johns was parried away by the ‘keeper, another effort was just wide and Calstock cleared two more shots off the goal line to earn them all three points. A disappointing result for Week (who are very hard to beat at home) and despite coming back from two nil down just couldn’t get their nose in front. Goal scorers for Calstock were Shane Richards, Gary Underwood and Richard West.   Match Sponsor: Ivor Barriball     Match report: Chris Warneford

Pelynt

Sean Johns (1), Adam Colwill (1), Wayne Hannaford (1)

Week started strongly and dominated most of the first half. They made plenty of chances and finally went ahead after twenty minutes when a cross by Jason Mountain was headed in by Sean Johns. They doubled their lead soon after when a long ball from Wayne Hannaford found Adam Colwill who rounded the ‘keeper to slot it in at the near post. Just before half time a long driving shot from Wayne Hannaford hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced in to give Week a comfortable 3 – 0 lead.
But it was all change in the second half with Week seeming to ‘switch off’ and Pelynt determined to get back in the game. The visitors scored twice through Tony Harman in the first 25 minutes to make it 3-2. This set up a frenetic last twenty minutes with both sides coming close to scoring but Week hung on and take their place in the next round.  Match report: Chris Warneford

Week St. Mary

Mark Taylor (3), Sean Johns (1), Wayne Hannaford (P)

Week fully deserved all three points from this encounter and showed that playing good football can triumph over the ‘hoof it and run’ tactics of the opposition.
The visitors made numerous chances in the first half and with Rob Pearce supplying the crosses Mark Taylor scored twice to put Week two up at half time.
Fifteen minutes into the second half a goal mouth scramble saw Pelynt pull one back but Week made a quick reply when Sean Johns rose above the defence to head in Wayne Hannaford’s free kick. Ten minutes later Rob Pearce, making another surging run on goal, was brought down in the box with Wayne Hannaford converting the spot kick to make it 4-1. The home side got one back but another good link up between Rob Pearce and Mark Taylor saw Mark get his hat-trick.
Pelynt made it 5-3 from a late corner but they were no match for Week who put on a good team performance right till the end. Scorers for Pelynt were Phil Hearnden who got two and Mike Griffin.    Match report: Chris Warneford

Grampound

Nigel Barriball (1), Wayne Hannaford (1), Adam Colwill (1), OG (1)

Week were in control in the first half and earned themselves what should have been a comfortable 3 – 0 lead by half time but they nearly threw it all away in the second period. Nigel Barriball opened the scoring for Week after 22 minutes turning in Sean Johns’ free kick. Wayne Hannaford followed up a shot parried by the ‘keeper and squeezed it just inside the near post with an own goal by a Grampound defender making it three.
Week had several chances early in the second half to wrap up the game but it was a good spell by the visitors that saw Shane Weeks and Glyn Ford get two goals in four minutes to make it 3-2 and put them right back in the game. Fired up by this Grampound piled on the pressure but Week dug in and held on with Adam Colwill completing the scoring for the home side in the last minute. Bodmin Saints

Rob Pearce (2)

In this top of the table clash played in extremely heavy conditions Week’s manager Tom Hannaford prepared his team well and they came out on top to claim three valuable points. Both sides had a chance to take the lead in the first fifteen minutes. With the Saints ‘keeper stranded off his line Rob Pearce had an open goal but the ball drifted agonisingly just outside the post. While at the other end Week’s Matt Pepperell, who had a solid game at the back, made an excellent and vital tackle in the box to deny the visitors. After sustained pressure a well worked move from defence down the right wing put Rob Pearce through who beat the defender and struck it just inside the post to put Week ahead after 35 minutes.
The Saints came out strongly in the second half with an early strike just hitting the outside of the post but against the run of play Week increased their lead when Rob Pearce got his second from a well struck shot into the top corner. The visitors replied through Martin Hicks three minutes later and continued to pressurise Week’s defence. In a tense last twenty minutes the Saints pushed forward but the home side defended well and hung onto their slender lead. Match Sponsor: Stephen Smith  Match report: Chris Warneford

Week St. Mary

Rob Pearce (2), Adam Colwill (1)

After their sensational performance to put out Premier side Looe in the cup, Polperro couldn’t repeat the result against in form visitors Week St. Mary who now go top of Division 2. In an end to end first half it was the home side who had several clear cut chances and whose performance belied their position at the bottom of this Division, but the score remained 0-0 at half time.
Week came out strongly in the second half and took the lead after five minutes when a Rob Hambly corner was nodded down for Rob Pearce to net from close range. The visitors raised their game and a well worked move from defence found Rob Pearce on the wing who slotted it across the goal into the far corner. Polperro had a good spell and had a clear chance to pull one back but were denied by ‘keeper Matt Oke who took the ball ‘off the foot’ of the incoming player. The visitors remained in control with Adam Colwill wrapping up the scoring for Week in the last minute.   Match report: Chris Warneford

St. Stephen

Mark Taylor (2), Rob Pearce (1)

With another win under their belt Week St. Mary opened up a five point lead at the top of Division 2. In a fairly even first half Week took an early lead when Mark Taylor’s shot went under the body of the ‘keeper but Jamie Hellier equalised for St. Stephen, after 35 minutes, in a goal mouth scramble.
The heavy conditions didn’t allow for the prettiest of football but Week had the better of the second half. Rob Pearce put Week ahead in the 70th minute with Mark Taylor heading in a great delivery by Nigel Barriball from the by-line to make it 3-1. Jamie Hellier got his second (disputably a handball) for the visitors late in the second half but it was Week that took all three points. Match Sponsor: Barry Wood   Match report: Chris Warneford

Week St. Mary

Rob Pearce (2), Sean Johns (1), Wayne Hannaford (P)

With a solid and hard working performance Week maintain their lead at the top of Division 2. Wayne Hannaford’s spot kick gave them an early lead after twelve minutes and a penetrating goal kick down the wing from ‘keeper Matt Oke allowed Rob Pearce to show his speed past the defender ending with a low shot into the far corner to double the score. The hosts had a real chance to pull one back just before half time but were denied by a timely tackle in the box from Antony Sachs.
In the first minute of the second half Rob Hambly, having tested the opposition all afternoon, made a great solo run through the defence only for his final shot to be pushed away by the ‘keeper. St. Minver put Week under pressure for the next ten minutes but without finding the net.
Week had the game wrapped up by the 70th minute after a looping overhead shot from Sean Johns and a superb screamer of a strike by Rob Pearce completed the scoring.
