INSCRIPTION

Sacred to the Memory of
RICHARD PENGELLY
late of this parish
who died 14th August 1833
Aged 25 years
---
Also in Memory
of his
INFANT SON
who died July 23rd
in the same year

With patience to the last he did submit
and murmer'd not at what the Lord thought fit
But still a Christian courage did resign
His soul to God at his appointed time
A sudden summons from above
Was sent to call him home
Death's heavy stroke breaks ties of love
And laid him in the tomb
He sleeps he sleeps in the silent dust
By all my sorrow all my love unmoved
Sleep till the solemn summons of the just
??? bids him awake to meet the God he loves
