Saturday 24th December 2011 • The Nativity figures returned to the church during the Crib Service where the children re-enacted the Nativity scene to a full church, enjoying carols and prayers. Gifts were collected for the Women's Refuge in Truro and a retiring collection was made for the Salvation Army. December 2011 • How wonderful to see the roof of the new Lambley Park greeting you as you enter the village after the terrible fire that destroyed the whole building 6 years ago. Hopefully it won't be too long before paying guests are using it bringing fresh interest to the village. Monday 5th December 2011  • The 6th birthday of the Week St. Mary Community Web Site. Thank you everybody for making it such a success. Saturday 3rd December 2011 • Despite light drizzle, a small and enthusiastic gathering attended the ceremony of the lighting of the Christmas Tree on the village green. Following a prayer by Rev Rob Dickenson, our Revel Queen, Jasmin Parkin, switched on the lights. Those present were cordially invited up to the Methodist School Room for some light refreshments. Saturday 12th November 2011 • Sixty-two beautifully packed and wrapped Christmas gift boxes were sent off to Orphanages in Eastern Europe. Thanks to your efforts, on Christmas morning, there are going to be some very happy children who will, for once in their lives, feel loved and cherished. Friday 18th November 2011 • A Classical Music Evening, featuring Revd. Dr. David Clarke on organ, digital piano and harsichord, including renditions by the Church Choir, held in the Methodist Chapel, raised over £410 to be divided between 'Help For Heroes' and Chapel Funds. Sunday 13th November 2011 • Over 85 people gathered for the brief service held at the War Memorial. as Lesley Booker and Councillor Phil Tucker laid poppy wreaths, to remember the fallen. The following service was held in the church. November 2011   • Congratulations to Daniel Goodman for achieving a First in FdSc Computing. Thursday 29th September 2011 • David Richardson submitted an article relating to a recent walk from Wainhouse Corner to Week St. Mary. The article is graphic and you can almost feel that you are walking with him as you follow the text.  Read it HERE Monday 19th September 2011 • Over 70 people gathered in the church for the annual Harvest Festival gathering, with renditions from Hilda, Trina, Jeremy, Leslie, Sue and Rob. The auction and the donations totalled £470 which has been presented to Stratton Hospital League of Friends toeards their tireless work in supplying special items for the rebuilt hospital building. Sunday 18th September 2011 • A small congregation gathered to hear the special guest speaker, Rev Dr Peter Waddell of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge University. Saturday 17th September 2011 • There were just a few showers and it was quite windy but there was a good turnout at the Revel celebrations to see Jasmin Parkin crowned as Revel Queen. This took place in the church because of the weather, where there was 'standing room only'. The evening saw a small crowd attend for the 'leg wrestling', barbecue and the fire sculpture. Saturday 3rd September 2011 • The Annual Scarecrow Festival raised the fantastic amount of £586.78 which was paid into the Revel Account. Thank you everyone! Wednesday 31st August 2011 • The Craft and Hobbies Fair made a fantastic profit of £988.16 so a big thank you for all the support given to this event. Thursday 25th August 2011 • Week St. Mary Village website now has its very own entry in facebook... why not check it out and say you 'like' it.  Monday 22nd  to 29th August 2011 • Despite several showers the sun has shone a little, in between, enough to encourage a steady trickle of visitors to the village to view the Scarecrows and visit the Church where the Craft & Hobbies Fair has been held. Monday 25th July 2011 • David Martin was asked by the Bude branch of the Old Cornwall Society to conduct a guided tour around Week St. Mary just for the Bude branch, in view of the success of the earlier walk as detailed below (2nd July). Meeting at 7pm by the Parish Hall he led a large party of nearly 50 members to Week Green via the footpath up Back Lane, then down Week Green Hill, through The Square and Lower Square into the church. Here Sue Dickenson and Linda Cobbledick served tea, coffee and biscuits to all. The party really enjoyed their evening. Sunday 24th July 2011 • It is with deep regret we learn of the fatal crash of a helicopter, near Week Orchard. Our sympathies are extended to the family. Saturday 2nd July 2011 • David Martin was asked by the Bude branch of the Old Cornwall Society to conduct a guided tour around Week St. Mary as part of a series of tours arranged to celebrate the meeting of all the Old Cornwall Society's at the Parkhouse Centre. A luxury coach was laid on and the party of 25, from all parts of Cornwall, were taken to Week Green where they walked down to The Square and into the Church before exiting via Lower Square pausing at the Old College before returning to Bude. Wednesday 22nd June 2011 • It is with deep regret we learn of the passing of Leo Pooley. Our sympathies are extended to the family. Sunday 26th June 2011 • Following a few wet days today produced the sunniest and hottest day for some time, encouraging an incredible number of visitors to the village's Open Garden Day. It is reported that over £800 was raised for Church funds. Saturday 28th May 2011 • A steady flow of visitors made their way to the parish church for the Open Day, some enjoying a climb to the top of the church tower, a display of photographs and refreshments. John & David took turns to provide a variety of tunes on the church organ. See some pictures in the Picture Gallery 17th April 2011 • The new playing field is taking shape; levelling has been completed and fencing erected Sunday 17th April 2011 • Councillor Adam Paynter ran in the London Marathon on behalf of the Robert Johns Leukaemia Fund, raising over £2,000; also 33 people attended Bob's local Sponsored Mini-Marathon, raising over £1,000. This year saw over 30 angels, wise men, shepherds, Mary, Joseph and a real baby Jesus. Saturday 4th December 2010 • Over 50 parishioners, young and old, gathered at Week Green for the Christmas Lantern Walk to the village green for the lighting of the Christmas Tree before going into the church to sing some popular carols accompanied by John on the organ and enjoy some refereshments. Friday 19th November 2010 • £600 was raised by David Clarke and his evening of classical music for 'Help for Heroes'. Sunday 14th November 2010 • Over 80 people gathered for the brief service held at the War Memorial. as Lt. Morwood laid a poppy wreath to remember the fallen. The following service was held in the chapel. Saturday 16th October 2010 • The 50/50 auction raised the magnificent sum of £502 for the Church Heating Fund. October 2010 • Renovations to the War Memorial have been carried out with the help of funds from the War Memorial Trust and Cornwall Councillor Phil Tucker. It only remains to replace the chains around the Memorial. October 2010 • The house to house collection during October raised £238.55; this will enable Action for Children to help children and families in the South West. Wednesday 22nd September 2010 • Week St. Mary Community Harvest Festival took place in the Parish Hall, raising £460 towards funds for the Stratton Hospital League of Friends. Monday 20th September 2010 • Week St. Mary Square was the starting point for the annual 'Revel Hunt' enjoyed by a good crowd. Sunday 29th August 2010 • A small but enthusiastic crowd enjoyed 'Songs of Praise' on the village green, despite some wind and rain, conducted by Rev Rob accompanied by John Hopkinson on the keyboard. Our sympathies are extended to the family. Tuesday 3rd August 2010 • Week St. Mary Coffee Pot Group ventured out on their Barnardo's Big Toddle. Armed with collection tins, balloons and buggies children and parents walked around Week St Mary collecting money. The door to door collections raised £68.00 and together with the sponsorships from group members they managed to raise £178.00 in total. Thursday 29th July 2010 • St. Mary's Church welcomed Bishop Tim to undertake baptisms, confirmations, blessing of the new priests door, kneelers and new play area. Friday 2nd July 2010 • Linda & Roy Cobbledicks Open Garden evening attracted quite a few visitors from both within and outside the village. A lively Draw, ample drinks and refreshments resulted in a total collection of £338 for the Church Heating Fund. Wednesday 16th June 2010 WSM • The 70th Anniversary of the arrival of the evacuees to Week St. Mary. Tuesday 6th October 2009 WSM • The Western Region judges of Calor's Cornwall Village of the Year visited the village and after a brief greeting and introduction from Tricia Kabler and Linda Cobbledick watched a brief Visual show in the chapel before visiting the Parish Hall and Playing Field. Wednesday 23rd September 2009 • A good crowd attended the Parish Hall for the Community Harvest Service and Auction. Fun and games kept the children entertained. Monday evening saw a good crowd attend the Harvest Service. Sunday 20th September 2009 • Sunday evening, in St. Mary's church, saw an attentive crowd attend the Festal Evensong Service at which the Revd Dr Peter Waddell spoke about his first visit to the village. Peter is Chaplain to Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, the patrons of St. Mary's Church. Saturday 19th September 2009 • The weather stayed kind for the annual Revel celebrations, with plenty of sunshine and a light breeze. A good crowd attended to enjoy the crowning of the new Revel Queen, conducted by Revd, Rob, and various sideshows and main-ring activities.  Afternoon tea was served in the Parish Hall and the evening entertainment was provided by 'chariot racing' and a barbeque. Friday 17th July 2009 WSM • The judges of Calor's Cornwall Village of the Year visited the village and viewed a display in the Parish Hall where several stands portrayed village clubs and activities in an attempt to demonstrate the cohesive unity of Week St Mary. Thursday 29th November 2007 • David Martin was in the Chapel's Sunday School Room signing copies of his new book. There was a good attendance both during the afternoon and evening sessions when over 130 books were purchased. Sunday 26th August 2007 • Glorious weather helped the attendance of visitors to the village for both the Scarecrow Festival and the Craft Fair. Friday 19th January 2007 • Several spring flowers are appearing - far too early though! There are numerous daffodils out at Wax Hill and so many primroses; they are almost beating the snowdrops. Tuesday 26th December 2006  • A charity football match took place between the Veterans and The Ladies. The Ladies were unlucky not to draw, losing 5 - 4 to the Veterans. Sunday 24th December 2006  • A capacity crowd attend Week St. Mary church for the Crib Service, with a real-life 'baby Jesus' in the Nativity scene. A large collection of gifts for the homeless mothers and children was collected for delivery by Christmas morning. Sunday 24th December 2006  • Whilst travelling to Week St. Mary Crib Service, coming up Wax Hill, a huge stag walked out from the hedgerow, stood in the road and looked at us, then as I braked, it turned and walked calmly back into the woods... what a magnificent animal with huge antlers. Sunday 1st October 2006  • The Robert Johns Leukaemia Fund held a charity fund raising concert at St. Mary's Church with the Mousehole Male Voice Choir as the main attraction. The evening's event was well attended by people of all ages and the musical variations ensured that everyone heard something of their favourite type of music. At various intervals throughout the evening, soloist Tricia Moore, from Plymouth, sang a variety of songs to her own accompaniment on guitar and a lute. The programme included such wonderful pieces as "By The Light Of The Silvery Moon", "You Raise Me Up" and a superb rendition of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". Our congratulations to Bob Johns for organising a great evening. Saturday 16th September 2006  • A full day of events celebrating Revel was held both in the playing field and later in The Square with singing and Sumo wrestling. Sunday 27th August 2006  • Sunday 27th August, despite the gloomy beginning, turned out to be a glorious warm summers day culminating at 6pm, when a crowd of some 50 in number congregated on the village green for a 'Songs of Praise' style service, conducted by Rev Rob Dickenson. The Service consisted of 10 popular hymns, a reading and prayers. Rev Rob preceded each hymn with brief details of its origin. John Hopkinson accompanied the singing on an electronic organ. Thursday 24th August 2006  • BBC TV cameras paid a visit to the village to interview Lesley Booker and film some scarecrows featuring in the annual Scarecrow Festival. Sunday 13th August 2006  • Fun Day for the Robert Johns Leukaemia Fund raised in excess of £4,850 for the charity. Saturday 5th August 2006  • A Promise Auction & BBQ at the Rectory raising funds for the Church Re-wiring Fund. Sunday 30th July 2006  • A special service took place at the church of St. Mary the Virgin, Week St. Mary, on Sunday, July 30th, to celebrate and dedicate the Week St. Mary Circle of Parishes and Institution of its Rector, Revd Rob Dickenson, by Rt Revd William Ind (Lord Bishop of Truro). This service was to celebrate the union of eight parishes into the Week St. Mary Circle of Parishes; namely, Week St. Mary, Whitstone, Poundstock, Widemouth Bay, Treneglos, Warbstow and Crackington Haven. There was a large attendance with representatives from each parish. The organist was John Hopkinson and the church choir was in attendance. A presentation was made of framed commemorative pictures to the Bishop, Archdeacon and to churchwardens from each parish in the new benefice. Refreshments were served in the church. Wednesday 12th July 2006  • Molly Colwill celebrated her 90th birthday and in the evening a special peal of 100 changes was rung by 6 of her relatives. Sunday 9th July 2006  • The Revd Rob Dickinson, parish priest and Rural Dean, welcomed a large congregation at a service to celebrate the ordination of Gavin Allan Douglas to the priesthood, at the parish church of St. Mary the Virgin, Week St. Mary on Sunday 9th July 2006. Those present witnessed the ordination of Revd Gavin Douglas by Bishop Roy Screech of St. Germans. Representatives of Week St. Mary Methodist Church and all eight parishes in the Benefice were present in addition to many visiting clergy. The sermon was given by the Army Chaplain General the Revd David Wilkes OBE, QHC. The organist was John Hopkinson with renditions from the church choir and an aria sung by Tom Bates. The service was followed by a lunch in the Parish Hall. Friday 7th July 2006  • Hazel Fishleigh celebrated her 80th birthday and her special peals were sounded in the evening by the local bellringers. Sunday 11th June 2006  • Linda's cat 'Sam' has returned home after being missing for several days. According to the vet he has been fed and watered which suggests he has been kept shut in but managed to escape and return home, albeit with damage to his tail as someone has tried to shut a door on him to possibly stop him from escaping! If he had been starved then he could have been shut in somewhere by accident but all the signs point otherwise. If only Sam could talk! Saturday 8th January 2006 • A full coach organised by Sue Booker on behalf of Week St Mary Sunday School, went to the Theatre Royal at Plymouth to see the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, starring the Chuckle Brothers. Saturday 17th December 2005 • Carol Singing Around The Christmas Tree : A fantastic £180 was raised for our local charity – the Robert Johns Leukaemia Fund (R.J.L.F.). Only a select few turned up, but those who came and supported the event, certainly made up for it by singing their hearts out! A good festive spirit was had by all. Freshly baked mince pies and hot mulled wine was enjoyed by the adults and hot chocolate and cookies went down well with the kids! A massive thank you to everyone who supported this worthwhile charity, particularly to Ray Pearce and the staff at Treetops, and Vic and Barbara at The Green Inn. Both venues provided us with wonderful spreads which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Thank you.  • John Hopkinson completed a 4-hour non-stop sponsored marathon playing the Church organ.
