Some interesting facts....

Humphry Pethick

The above image is a recreation of the headstone contained within the church relating to Humphry Pethick who was buried on 13th October 1663. It was at first believed that the engraving of the angel with trumpet was a single endless loop but upon closer inspection contains a few 'ends'.

George Roll

INSCRIPTION

Here lieth the body of

GEORGE ROLL, ESQUIER

who died

the 10th day of February

In Regni Elizabeth Ann: Domini 1602

For a long time it was believed that the above headstone was one of the oldest but recently an ancient Celtic cross was discovered that was believed missing for many years. The cross dates back to 1534.

Historical facts occurring in the year 1532:

In 1534, significant events in England included the passing of the Act of Supremacy, establishing King Henry VIII as the Supreme Head of the Church of England. This act effectively severed ties with the Roman Catholic Church and initiated the English Reformation. Additionally, Parliament passed the Act Respecting the Oath to the Succession, recognizing Henry VIII's marriage to Anne Boleyn and their children as legitimate heirs. Jacques Cartier also discovered Prince Edward Island in Canada on June 29th.
